    Can I use compiz?

Can anybody tell me whether my ATI mobility radeon 9200 graphics card will be able to process Compiz desktop effects at all? If not, I can save my self the trouble of even trying... :-)

    Re: Can I use compiz?

I have a ati 9250 pro card and it works, but the whole desktop / apps. gets very slow very fast.

I also found that the propriety drivers don't make much of an impact and our card aren't supported anymore anyway.

    to test run:
    Code:
    glxgears
in a terminal and watch how the output develops.

Anything under 10'000 fps is a waste.

I use kwin under kde4.1 sometimes just for fun, it is a lot faster than compiz but still not good enough for default usage.

So, I will be getting a new card pretty soon

I hope this helps in your decision making

      Well, here's my output:
      4459 frames in 5.0 seconds = 890.561 FPS
      5336 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1067.137 FPS
      5340 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1067.903 FPS
      5673 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1134.515 FPS
      5425 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1084.983 FPS
      5549 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1109.774 FPS
      3176 frames in 5.1 seconds = 623.219 FPS
      3725 frames in 5.0 seconds = 744.930 FPS

So I guess my conclusion goes without saying.........

Well, yes your card is 3D compatible but way to slow.

Mine shows something like 3'500 fps and that is too slow.
