    updating thunderbird

    Howdy,

Could someone please walk me through updating thunderbird? I have downloaded the update from mozilla.com but now don't know what to do with it. I have the synaptic version (1.0.7) and can get 1.5 through Automatix, although I've heard that this is not the safest option.

I'd appreciate a walk-through as this would help me installing and updating other software.

    Cheers.

Download this script to your desktop.

Then, go to KMenu > System > Konsole and copy and paste these commands in:
    Code:
    cd ~/Desktop
    mv installnewthunderbird.sh.txt installnewthunderbird
    chmod +x installnewthunderbird
    ./installnewthunderbird

Thank you. I appreciate your help.

How can I learn how to do this myself, without asking noob questions all the time?

      Thanks again.

There's nothing wrong with "asking noob questions all the time"--that's what support forums are for.

The way I avoid asking "noob questions" is by using Google searches like this one.

Thanks aysiu. I guess it's a case of fighting off the initial panic when I don't understand, or can't do something with kubuntu.

            Re: updating thunderbird

Thank you very much for your assistance. I've finally managed to get Thunderbird 1.5 installed on Kubuntu Breezy.

One hint for others who like me are trying to install 1.5 from scratch - for this script to work, one actually needs to install 1.0.8 first, open it, and establish a profile. I also downloaded some email. If one doesn't have the profile already set up, then the rest of the script won't function and 1.5 will not open.
