I just installed kubuntu and I want to get KDE 4.1

first how can I check if I already have 4.1 and If I don't can someone show me how to upgrade step by step

If you are using Kubuntu Hardy Heron (8.04), then you need to enable ppa repositories > Kubuntu org => KDE 4.1 Released:

KDE 4.1 has been released and packages are available for Kubuntu 8.04, the Hardy Heron. These packages install to /usr/lib/kde4 and can be installed along side your existing KDE 3 installation.
