Compiling KOffice 2.0-alpha-9

Could anyone hint at what steps need to be taken to compile KOffice 2.0-alpha-9 on Kubuntu?
I assume that terminal needs to be launched, and something like cmake . needs to be run in the extracted dir.
Does Kubuntu have everything it needs as to the KDE requirements?

You don't need to download and compile KOffice from source - the package is available for installation from Adept Manager.

K Menu > Systems > Adept Manager and type in koffice then click on the blue > next to the package name below and click on the Request Install button and then click on Apply Changes. That's it. KOffice will be installed and available from the K Menu (probably under Office if it doesn't produce it's own menu). You might need to restart after installation if it doesn't show on the menu.

The above said, that will install version 1.6.3-4. Why would you want to install an 'alpha' version over a stable release version?

Note also, that KOffice 2.0 is being developed for use with KDE4. So, if you aren't running Hardy Heron 8.04 w/KDE4, you wouldn't be able to use it even if you did compile it from source.

I suppose I want the 2.0 due to the features that aren't available in the stable release. I really don't concern myself over the bugs that might be encountered, as long as it will allow to do some work. Windows couldn't even load it, so I had to put it down.
Isn't the latest version of Kubuntu supplied with KDE 4? So I suppose that I'm all set in that respect?

In Konqueror, click on Help > About KDE. If it shows K Desktop Environment. Release 3.5.9 then you are not using KDE4.

I just download and burned Kubuntu 8.04, not the Kubuntu 8.04 KDE4 Remix. Is the 8.04 KDE4 Remix what I should be installing?
I've been using Ubuntu 8.04 for the day, and only about to install Kubuntu, so if there is that special operating system which ive yet to download, suitable for the release, I'll take it Thanks for the heads up on that one.
The problem that I'm faced with is the compilation process, I'm completely new to this and the guides on the KDE website that point to this and that for reference are just too much for me at the moment. The more legible ubuntu compilation guides apparently aren't suitable for this release. Is the whole installation process a matter of extracting, and running a few commands in the terminal, or should I forget about compiling until i can get my head around it?

To be honest, yes. Compiling from source isn't something that anyone new to Linux should contemplate right away. It isn't hard, but it is something that is best left until one has gained a better understanding of how their OS works.

As to the remix version of Hardy Heron. I have it as one of my three versions of Kubuntu on my laptop (triple-booting). It (KDE4) is not complete. It has bugs. It doesn't do everything that one finds in KDE 3.5.9. Unless you are brave and don't mind the occasional crash and not being able to do somethings, I'd recommend you don't install it. Stay with HH and KDE 3.5.9, which is what you will get if you download the non-remix LiveCD of HH.

It's either learn to compile the software need or go back to PS in MS.

Is there half a chance of koffice2 1:1.9.96.0~that.is.really.1.9.95.9-1ubuntu1.3 or the like appearing in Adept Manager?

actually i read on once compiling ktorrent that kde 4 apps will work in kde 3.5.x, etc.. with of course the kde4 libs, etc..

as for the OP,

if u enable backports it may or may not, u can file a bugreport on launchpad requesting it, but it isn't for sure.

however

itta prob. be available as an option in the Intrepid Ibex of ubuntu/kubuntu once it becomes a stable ubuntu version.

@bottom shows the current, stable and unsupported versions of ubuntu, etc..

and just so u know kubuntu Hardy is NOT a LTS version. :|, but the ubuntu with gnome is.
