    clock settings grayed out

i've just installed K 8.04. i'm also new to linux, so getting around is a little different from what i'm used to. i went into system settings> date/time, to change my clock settings and all the options are grayed out, therefore not allowing me to change anything. i don't see any admin/root option for me to get into a root session.
    any help would be appreciated.
    thanks in advance.

    Hi,
At the bottom of the Date & Time settings window is an "Administrator Mode" button. Click that, enter your password, and you should be good to go.

Or if you right-click your clock and choose <Adjust Date and Time> it will ask for Admin pwd right off the top- then everything is available to adjust

        Thanks for your replies.
I don't know if this makes a difference but my KDE version is 4.0.3. I went to the Date & Time settings and everything is grayed out, including the scrolling. And I don't see an "Administrator Mode" button anywhere in the settings. I tried right clicking the Date & Time settings and it opened up as if I left clicked it.
I will attempt to attach a screenshot of my Date & Time settings .
Thanks again for your replies and thanks in advance for additional help.

        regards,

Yes, it does make a difference.

You are (basically) running an experimental version of KDE. Experimental in the sense that it is still being refined. It doesn't contain all the working functions one is used to in KDE 3.5.9 - yet.

Well the next question is am I hosed or am I able to load the 3.5.9 version some how, and if so how hard is that to accomplish?
            Thanks Snowhog.

Huh -- clock settings are one of a few things that actually work correctly on my KDE 4 desktop, although I haven't tried every possible combination.

But it looks like I can change anything I want. I'm running 4.0.98 -- at least that's what the Konsole package says it is -- it's the same as "RC1". Maybe you want to try it.
