Abir, it sounds more likely that your monitor (or, better still, the Graphics-card you have) can not handle the 1024 x748 resolution you're trying to reset it to.
Especially that Graphics-card. If it can not be set to 1024 x748, it is why your Screen Resolution got thrown back to 640 x 480...on a Restart.
The right driver was installed when you installed Kubuntu.
Which is why you can get ONLY 800 x 600.
The only other way to get around your problem...is, to buy a Graphics-card, with better Screen Resolution capabilities.
do you have a nvidia or ATI videocard?
Then i suggest to use the ENVY program, it installs automatic and you get a nice officiel settings panel from nvidia or ATI
And your 3D power is present
