    No graphic login

I screwed up something earlier, trying to replace a broken package, and in the process it seems I also managed to remove my kde-desktops, leaving me only gnome, and only cl-login. I got gnome started with startx, and then reinstalled kde3 and 4 through apt-get install. Now all the packages seem to be in place, but still no graphic login. I have two questions:

1: How do I fix this.

2: How can I login to kde-sessions through cli.

Cli, can you start kde with:

    Code:
    xinit /usr/bin/startkde
or do you get error message ?

If you are using 8.04, it has a new feature. Don't boot into the normal kernel - boot into recovery mode. It has a feature called (something like) "Try to recover XServer". Use that. It has worked for me.

Well, I used arochesters advice, and it got me back into graphic login mode. Thank you.
On the other hand, I changed my desktop manager to gdm in a previous attempt to fix this, and now it is still there after i reconfigured to kdm-kde4.
