    MKV files

Hey I'm having problems with mkv files in kaffeine.
They tend to go really slow, or ultimately just stop.
Is there a player that can play them better, should they be converted?
    what's your advice?
    Thanks, John

    Re: MKV files

My advice is to use mplayer. You could convert the mkv with mencoder.
Second choice is video lan client (VLC).

        Re: MKV files - SOLVED

Scratch that last reply, the video runs slower than the sound.

I have the same problem. I use the one w/o gui. I get error could not open /initialize audio device/no sound. So I have video w/ no sound. But at least it plays w/o skipping! Better than the other players.

              Hmmm, what about VLC?

*EDIT* It would be great to get a sample of the file.. if it's legal

w/o gui the video runs slowly but the sound moves at regular speed, vlc just seems to scramble the video while it's playing but the sound moves at regular speed, in kaffeine the video moves slowly, and the sound stops every once in awhile for the video to catch up.

mkay, what resolution is the video at? Maybe your machine is too slow? I don't have more ideas than tweaking with som options or converting video with mencoder or vlc..

                    Re: MKV files

I think it must just have been that set of videos, I found another mkv that ran fine. I also found avi files of the videos, so thanks for your help, but I think I'll just work around it at the moment.
