What happens if you do not set root password?

    Hi

I cannot use 'su root' because kubuntu doesn't recognise my root password. I even reinstalled to try to circumvent this problem before i started to make to many "customisations" to my desktop enviroment.

And i looked real hard and saw no place to enter root password during install procedures...

What if anything can i do??

You set a password for your account, that is the root password.

su root or even plain old su will not work due to permissions setting in default kubuntu.

If you really need to have a shall open as root, try sudo su

      Thank you so much!!

This saves me a sleepless night! 'sudo su' in Konsole did the trick!

Actually, you never (well, hardly ever) have to use root, as such in *buntu. In fact, it's a VERY BAD IDEA.

Please take a look at this page from the Ubuntu Community Help Wiki. BTW, the Help Wiki should be your first resort when you want to learn how to do something.
