    Nvidia drivers KDE4

    I'm running on Kubuntu 8.04 64-bit KDE 4 re-mix.

I've been trying to fix some screen tearing issues with kdm. Right now I have the restricted Nvidia drivers installed. I have tried installing one of the 171.XX drivers, but for some reason when I go into a regular console and try and run them, I get errors saying certain libraries need to be installed. I haven't used Linux for about a year, so I thought I'd post here and see if I can get some help setting it up. I've searched for documentation, but I only get forum posts and can't find anything to resolve this issue.

Here is what I need to know:
How to properly install Nvidia drivers in KDE 4 (except for xorg.conf editing, I can do that).
Packages I need to install with it.
If the screen tearing is more from Plasma, or if it actually is a driver issue.
If there are any tips for optimizing video settings in KDE 4.

Thanks in advance for the help. If you need more info, I can post that later. I'm posting at work right now, so I wasn't able to pull any of the errors up.

What libraries does it say are missing?
