    Kubuntu installed with ubuntu

I recently installed Ubuntu on my laptop. Then, after a short while, I became interested in the KDE environment so I installed Kubuntu desktop first, followed by the KDE desktop. I prefer KDE to Gnome.
My first question is probably a stupid one: have I got the Kubuntu system, or have I got Ubuntu with Kubuntu installed over the top of it?
My second question is: can I safely remove the Ubuntu desktop and the gnome desktop? ( I was having a look about doing it, but a message said I should not remove Ubuntu desktop because updates depend on it. )
I know somebody is going to say, why does it matter? Well, I like things tidy - that's my only defence.

First, welcome to Kubuntu and the Kubuntu Forums.

Installing kubuntu-desktop and kde should have installed a fully working Kubuntu environment. Therefore, you should be able to remove gnome and gnome-core.

You might still need to install additional packages for Kubuntu/KDE and still have some Gnome packages that may need to be removed, but ....

Watch for additional replies to this thread. Others who have done what you are asking about will, I'm sure, add their thoughts to this question.

I've tried it, although a couple of versions back, and it was certainly not painless. In theory, it should work, but in practice, it didn't work out. If you havn't done a lot of configuring and customization, I recommend a new install. It's cleaner and quickly done.
