[SOLVED] Is what I want possible?

I'm still fairly new to Kubuntu, even though I have been using it for almost a year now.

I was wondering if it was possible to have a dock installed (like kooldocks) where it replaces what I have currently as my top panel.

What I am wanting is to move my main panel to the top, and have the dock at the bottom.
Is this possible to do with Kubuntu 8.04 (KDE 3.5.9)?

    Sure you can!

Simply right-click on the main panel, select "configure panel' and in there you can specify where exactly you want it to go.

As for kooldock, etc, I am sure those apps also have some sort of similar configuration where you can do the same.

I use "ksmoothdock". It's has been fairly reliable for me.

I was wary about downloading and installing that one because the instalation mentions Dapper and not Heron.
        So, ksmoothdock works in 8.04?

prbably not, but there is a newer fork of ksmoothdock called kooldock, and it is available in the standard repositories.

I'm using ksmoothdock in Hardy as we speak, but Compiz does some funky things with. Actually since 7.04 Compiz has always done funk things with it.

Claydoh, do you know if kooldock works better than ksmoothdock?

I don't know, it installs and works in hardy, at least for the 5 minutes I used it
but I am not using any desktop effects at the moment

              Actually make that 7 minutes
enabling the 'extra effects' in the desktop effects settings doesn't seem to have caused any issues with the kooldock here in my quick test

I'm running it now on a different machine that is KDE4. It runs great, but I can't seem to move it from the bottom of the screen. I'll plat with it a while. Since ksmoothdock is no longer supported and this one is, I might as well move on.

I have a real quick, semi stupid question:

(Before I install it) Will Kooldock take the current place of my taskbar? (not location wise, but, as in when I install it, it will no longer be there).

It shouldn't. Is that what you want it to do? I think it is possible.

Re: Is what I want possible?

nix the about question. I got it installed and it looks pretty much ok.
Its a little glitchy at times, but it is working and I am happy.

Thank you for telling me it was in the repositories because that saved a lot of hassle.
I couldn't get it to work in 7.10 so thats why I was cautious about trying it in 8.04
Thank you both for your help!
