for web browsing using Firefox, there is an improvement over 7.10 with regard to speed. hardware upgrade needed, but in the meantime i am browsing, banking, emailing and enjoying 8.04 with my 128mb ram.
With that little RAM, may I suggest you try an alternative window manager? I like IceWM, but fluxbox is quite good too. If you run KDE apps that can negate some of the memory savings, but there's still an advantage.
I am running Ubuntu 8.10 (yes Gnome) with upgrades applied daily about 0900 UK time. Hardware is Dell Precision 420, 2x 800 MHz PIII, 512 MB RDRAM, nVidia GeForce 6800 128 MB AGP graphics, 18GB SCSI and 500GB IDE HDDs, DVD burner, Hauppage TV card.
