    Can't boot from CD

    Hi,

I am trying to install Kubuntu on my Laptop but i can't boot to CD Drive.
Bios is set to boot from Cd but it boots straight to windows.
I think there may be a problem detecting the CD drive even though it works fine
when operating system up and running.

I Know the Kubuntu disc is fine because i have used it to install on two other PCs.
If i use a Win 98 Floppy i can boot to D:\ and read files off the Kubuntu CD.
Is there a way i can install from here.

No, it has to boot the CD. Once you boot Win 98 from the floppy, it's not going to load Kubuntu.

You might go into BIOS and disable the hard drive in the "Boot Priority" menu, if you can.

Do any bootable CDs work in that optical drive? An alternative might be to make a bootable USB stick, and use that to install Kubuntu.

      Hi,

No Cd will boot, I have an Xp disc and this dosn't Boot either.
As for the USB option, it is an old Laptop and i don't think it will cater for this.
      Thanks for the reply anyway.

Try a firmware update for your optical drive.
Get that from the website of the manufacturer of the optical drive.
(Follow the instructions given for your drive at the site.)
