    Total Newbee: Installing a deb package...How to?

    I have a new wubi installation of kubuntu 8.01 and i love it. but i'm coming from windoze xp and i'm used to clicking on an executable and installing something. i wanted to install the new beta version of open office 3. so i downloaded the tarball. i unpacked it but i am now stuck. there is a script which is called update, which i think is just to update the whole thing once it's installed. there is a folder, too, called debs. and it is FULL of debs. how do i know which one to click on? long question: how do i install office 3?

    First, I'm assuming you're a beta tester and know your way around a little bit.
    Second, there is an installation instructions link on the page you (should have) downloaded it from (http://download.openoffice.org/3.0beta/). Follow the directions there.

    To answer your question more directly, install a .deb by:

    $ sudo dpkg -i filename.deb

    or use GDebi

      Thanks I'll look on the page. I was aware of the command you gave me. But in this instance it wouldn't work, I don't think. You see there are like 200,000 deb in a tar ball.
