    Wireshark

I just Migrated from kubuntu 7.10 to 8.04 x86 with kde 3.5 and I love it. only thing is Wireshark seems to not be working properly... seems to have a problem with not showing the available interfaces.
I need wireshark for my cisco networking class and I'm relally bummed!
Am I doing something wrong or is this an undocumented bug

    Thanks in advance!

    How did you install wireshark?

      Re: Wireshark

I wonder why there is no communication for the last three weeks.
Even xaegis did not bother to answer the question from Snowhog

I am not xaegis, but I seem to have the same problem.
Reading his posting, I think he installed Wireshark the same way I did.
      Using Adept Manager in 7.04!
It did work really fine until I tried to use it the first time AFTER the upgrade to 8.04.

Problem: The network interfaces are missing.

I noticed the behavior during startup of the application differs from what I noticed previously.
The splash screen shows a progress bar while loading the necessary modules.
This progress bar only gets to about 50%, but the way I remember it reached the 100%.
What's more important Wireshark used to ask for my password to obtain administrative privileges.
      This password request is missing.
So I started wireshark using kdesu ... et voila ... it works.
The progress bar still only reaches about 50%, but it works.
After the application start there is a warning: 'Running as user "root" and group "root".
      This could be dangerous.'
OK I know that, but I always hat to provide my password, and this warning never appeared.

Any hints to have to old behavior?

Are you saying, still, that you have no interfaces file (/etc/network/interfaces) on your system?

          Re: Wireshark

No, I am not saying that.
Wouldn't it be a little bit hard to access the net using the same machine and OS?

Of course there is an interface file.
It was last changed in January. Not even close to the distro upgrade. (7.10 to 8.04)

My guess is, something in the Wireshark configuration changed.
So it's not requesting my password to obtain administrative privileges, thus it is not able to access the interfaces ... at least not the way it wants to.
