    ubuntu to kubuntu

I have Ubuntu 8.04 installed on my PC and I recently tried the Kubuntu 8.04 LTS cd which I liked. Is it possible for me to install the necessary files within Ubuntu for the KDE desktop (that is in Kubuntu) following the HowToForge.com tutorial to "install the Perfect Desktop" etc.?
Hopefully this makes some kind of sense - as you will have guessed by the wording I am a NEWBIE (very).
    Thanks in advance

I believe that you need only install the package kde - a metapackage. When finished, you should be able to elect which desktop environment to log into - Gnome or KDE - when you reboot. I'm not 100% sure on this, so I'd wait for others to concur or provide additional input.

I'm currently running Kubuntu 7.10 but would like to add Ubuntu to learn it. How and where would I download it as a separate program. It's obviously going to be large, so I'd use my broadband connection at work.

            Re: ubuntu to kubuntu

You have the ability to use Gnome, XCfe, KDE all on the same install. You just switch to whichever desktop you want before you type your password to log on. There is a thread over at the regular ubuntu forums in the Absolute Beginner section on how to do this. I know because I started it and people were kind enough to give me the answers.

            For Gnome:
            Code:
            sudo aptitude install ubuntu-desktop
            For XFce:
            Code:
            sudo aptitude install xubuntu-desktop
IGNORE THIS THREAD THE ONE ABOVE IT IS MUCH BETTER, I THINK ANYWAY Oh well, I tried anyway.
