KDE 4 & log off or shut down computer

KDE 4 won't let me log off or shut down my computer. I have to power down with the switch. It does boot well though.

1. When you open the K-menu, I have on the bottom right a big button/submenu "leave", that submenu contains also shutdown. Do you have that?
2. If you open a terminal and enter:

sudo shutdown now

Does this work?

If the logout hangs after you selected this function you can also press. <ctrl><alt><backspace> (together) and you will return to the login screen. There you can shutdown the system.
