can't get ndiswrapper to work [SOLVED]

hey, i just got my new laptop today and installed HH 64-bit in a dual-boot. as expected, the wireless card is not recognized. apparently bcm43xx-fwcutter does not work with my driver, so i then tried using ndiswrapper to install the driver that i downloaded from the Dell website, here is what i get:

    Code: #ndiswrapper -i bcmwl6.inf

output: couldn't create /etc/ndiswrapper/bcmwl6: Permission denied at /usr/sbin/ndiswrapper-1.9 line 194.

any suggestions on how to get the wireless working

ok, figured that problem out (duh!), and ndiswrapper says my driver is installed but it is still not recognizing my wireless card, nothing appears in my Network manager, any suggestions?

Re: can't get ndiswrapper to work

      From the ndiswrapper site (http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/joomla/)
      Next confirm it's installed

      Code:
      ndiswrapper -l
      (l as in "L"ist)

Since you've already tried installing, it's best to confirm the ndiswrapper module is not loaded

      Code:
      sudo modprobe -r ndiswrapper
If you're ever unsure what's going on you can check the output from dmesg to see if there are any error messages. The follow command will just show you the messages relating to ndiswrapper.

      Code:
      dmesg | grep ndiswrapper
To install the module again ndiswrapper suggests

      Code:
       sudo depmod -a
      Assuming no errors then
      Code:
      sudo modprobe ndiswrapper
Try those steps, if it's still failing post the results from dmesg as above

that is about as far as i have gotten, i googled the problem, and it looks like kubuntu may be seeing my WLAN card as a USB device, the code is below:

Got me as well. Next step would be to take it to the ndiswrapper forums / support.

          Good luck!

NDISwrapper does not support Vista drivers yet. You will need to try an XP driver (bcmwl5).

Since HH, use b43-fwcutter instead of bcm43-fwcutter. It worked for me, for the first time even with WPA. Preferably hook up to the internet using a cable and install b43-fwcutter. It will automatically suggest downloading a compatible driver.

Make sure if you use adept-manager to show "details" during install, because otherwise you would miss the suggestion to download the driver (and it would show like adept is stuck).

If you do lspci -nn, you should be able to find a device listed as 14e4:4315. That should be your wireless card. I have not heard much about this chipset, but if you post your lspci -nn we could let you know if you should try the b43 driver. However, you might just try using the b43-fwcuttter option if you don't get the ndiswrapper option working. If you do try this, make sure that you blacklist ndiswrapper in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist so that it does not interfere with the b43 driver.
