Hi I have just installed Gutsy Gibbon but I cannot play .mp4 video files at all. I have installed *every* available package relating to them (after lots and lots of google) but all I get is the 'cannot play no demux' error every time. All other formats play fine but this is of little use to me as my vids are all in mp4 format. Can anyone suggest what to do?

Re: Cannot play .mp4 video
works no problems here.
stick to the standard procedure.
not much googling needed anymore.
a) install the "kubuntu-restricted-extras" meta package (includes libxine1-ffmpeg)
b) add the medibuntu repository to your system through adept/synaptic/whatever
c) install the "non-free-codecs" meta package (includes w32codecs) from medibuntu
d) install/use a player that supports mp4 (e.g. mplayer)
when looking to sort something out,
i suggest to start from the ubuntu community help.
in your case, the following sections could be of interest:
- medibuntu
- multimedia

Re: Cannot play .mp4 video
I am running Hardy, I have installed the medibuntu packages as you (and the medibuntu page) describe but I still cannot play .mp4 files with mplayer or any other player. Is there something else I need to do for Hardy?
Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Re: Cannot play .mp4 video
This is the film I was trying to watch:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...=public+domain
I can watch it in the web browser just fine, but the download (listed as for iPod/PSP on the side) downloads as an .mp4 that I can't seem to open.
