    ATI radeon mobility 9700

    1. seems to be locking my system after i run it, i can't access the package manager or add/remove programs afterwards because the database is locked -being used by another process.
    2. sudo dpkg --configure -a
sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/lock (also posted in this forum "locked database")
fails to help - no such folder
    3. Logging in and logging out does not resolve this problem it just causes more - slow system, artifacts on the screen.
    4. restarting does help, but then doesn't resolve the problem with envy, of course.
    5. Uninstalling following Albertos instructions on his log does not work, just a list of error.
    6. Uninstalling via the package manager does work, restart system and reinstalling envyng-qt via the package manger gives the same problem.

    I'm missing something obvious... what?

Re: EnvyNG not installing driver Kubuntu 8.04 final

Ok - didn't solve this one,
I did reinstall completely with the brand new final version (my last version was an updated alpha) just to see if there was a difference. Envy loaded.
Rebooted and everything appears fine, see "code".
Only thing is now i get a lot of "shearing" - if i move a window quite quickly then you get to see where it just was (kind of like a spread deck of cards effect). I have no idea why, first time i've had this with the new ATI drivers. But i Guess this is now a new question and i'll try it in hardware support.

As far as why Envy didn't work before, i have no idea, my Aalpha setup was also almost clean - i'd done very little to change it (original drivers and very little tweaking). Guess it's just one of those things.
      Anyways, cheers.

          H, thanks for the imput.
but, take a look at point 2 (2 above your post) - I used "rm /var/lib/dpkg/lock" but got a "no such file",

sudo dpkg --configure -a ... You may need to do this more than once.
