If you have copied text output that contains formatting (colors, highlighting, etc.), please do not enclose it in QUOTE or CODE tags. Just right-click your mouse and choose "Paste Without Formatting" or similar (Paste as plain text).
I have not used an ADSL modem with Linux for about 4-5 years and it was not a nice process then. It is a lot easier to use a router, as well as adding an extra layer of security for your system.
Ethernet works very well with my Kubuntu, but I don't have it at home and going to the English Department Office or to Salvador's Cafe are rather less convenient.
Actually, I'm getting a trickle of a connection via the modem at home, enough to get an icon at the lower right of the screen telling me "wired ethernet connection active:eth0". But that doesn't translate to reading Gmail.
