    wireless networking issues

    here's the problem(s):

    1. knetworkmanager doesn't do anything (like it doesn't open) when i try to run it through kmenu, and going through network settings and entering the proper info doesn't work either, so i have to play with the terminal. this is fine, i've done it before.

    2. the proper wireless networks, including myessid show up in a list when i input "sudo iwlist wlan0", but when i follow that with "sudo iwconfig wlan0 essid myessid" and "sudo iwconfig wlan0", the essid that shows up is "off/any". this makes me want to stab my eyes out.

    help?
