    Packages won't upgrade.

My adept notifier keeps giving notice of upgrades, but for three of them the installer only reads: "no change" in the requested field.
    These are kdebase-bin
    kdesktop
    and kdm.

I am running Hardy, with kde .3.5
When I try to change the request to upgrade, the field reads "Break"..

    Why, and what to do?

Because HH remains in active development, there is quite a large flow of daily package updates. The first thing to do is to wait 24 hours and try it again -- the breakage may have been fixed by then.

Ok, I'll just sit it out another while. Does this also explain why the updater grabbed my Konqueror and ran for it?

Not sure -- do you mean Konq was going to be removed, or do you mean Konq ran when you attempted to update?

Konq was in fact removed....as part of a batch of updates this morning..... I know I can reinstall it from the repo anytime I want, but i figured I should wait and see, there might be rational thought involved..

            That doesn't sound right.

I run HH and KDE4, so it's not quite the same as your setup, but I installed updates last evening and as far as I know (I can't check at the moment) Konqueror is still there if I want it. I didn't notice it on the update list -- it was mostly compiz-related.

Have you made any changes to your repositories, other than to add Medibuntu or something like that? You haven't installed Automatix, have you? Have you run
            Code:
            apt-get autoremove
? These are the 3 things off the top of my head that might have affected your update performance or installed package list.

Nope. I haven't done any of the three.

Well, at least now the initial problem in this thread seems to have resolved itself, as Dibi kindly pointed out it might. Which leaves only the second problem, to which the solution is painfully obvious. Reinstall Konq from repo.

The removal of Konqueror is just weird, and it's also weird that no one else has complained about it, because it is pretty popular among Kubuntu users.

I guess if it were me, I'd open the console and sudo apt-get install konqueror. Not very elegant, huh? :P

FYI, the new Dolphin in KDE4 is really a very nice file manager and since that's the only mode that I previously used Konqueror in, I haven't run Konqueror in many weeks now. Not that file managers for Linux are in short supply ....

Well, I simply reinstalled it, and it's working nicely. Guess I can't rule out the possibility that I somehow screwed it up myself. And with the other problem solved without me doing anything, keeping this thread alive would seem a bit like flogging a dead horse. Thanks to all repliers.
