This is a good question. I don't know.
    I use Linux only Sorry

My hint would be - to check the firewall configuration you use under XP - if any ...

      Re: Starting over, Internet connectivity

      Well last try at Post did not work file to large, I tried to open UDP Port 53 in XP as suggested and NO JOY;

      cat /eetc/resolv.conf
      domain rods
      nameserver 209.165.131.12
      nameserver 209.165.131.13

I checked XP for Connection detail:

      Physical Address: 00-13-D4-78-32-D1
      IP Address: 192.168.1.101
      Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
      Defaul Gateway: 192.168.1.1
      DHCP Server: 192.168.1.1
      Lease Obtained: 4/21/2008 18:10:20
      Lease Expires: 4/22/2008 18:10:20
      DNS Servers: 209.165.131.12
      209.165.131.13
      WINS Server:

Same as in eth0 connection except no place to put DHCP Server

Well last attempt I tried to attatch a screen shot and it was to large and I am unable to make it small enough.

        Re: Starting over, Internet connectivity

In your screenshot - I just saw something ...
        RX Packets: 37, errors: 37 ....

You network card is loosing packets. Actually - all of them ... So no communication can happen.
        Could you paste in a:
        Code:
        sudo ethtool eth0
Just to make sure there is no Autonegotiation issue ?

Looks like there is another issue here.
Could you please post an "lspci -v" output, and shortly after boot - a "dmesg" output - just to see what Network device you really have - what driver needs to be loaded and if an alternative driver could be used.

              Re: Starting over, Internet connectivity

Well, Thankyou to all who tried to help, I finally am on line with Ubuntu 8.04 and am enjoying it. It took about an hour to get my monitor set properly, and then the network took alittle longer. I ended by changing to a pci ethernet card. And then reinstalling the network managers. Now I just have to figure out how to install and use KDE 3.5/KDE 4 as an alternate desktop environment in ubuntu

                Re: Starting over, Internet connectivity

                That part is simple, either
                Code:
                sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop
or search for kubuntu desktop in synaptic. You'll get a prompt when installing what desktop manager you want to use, chose kdm and upon your first log in, click the little white box to the right and chose kde as your session.
