    important packages removed

i am using kubuntu 7.10. Without my knowledge, so many packages got marked for removal and removed while I was trying to remove something in adept. adept was also gone. i managed to reinstall adept, update and reinstall some of the things i knew got uninstalled.
my system settings screen also has lost few icons like printers, user management. I don't even remember how many things were there. Can it be recovered?
    please help me asap.

Well ... recovering an unknown number of lost things on another person's computer is a rather daunting request!

On the other hand, I guess you'll never know whether we have failed, huh?

I think you need to find the package "kde-guidance" in Adept Manager and mark it for installation. IIRC, that is where the system settings are located.

IIRC = If I Recall Correctly -- a reference to my very fallible memory, not a Linux reference.

Open KMenu>System>Adept Manager, and find the package kde-guidance. Mark it for installation. Click "Apply" on the top menu, and it will be installed.

Reboot your system, and log back in. Open KMenu>System Settings, and see if it looks better.

Installing the meta-package - that is, a package that simply causes other packages to be installed - "kubuntu-desktop" should make sure that all the default selection of packages will be reinstalled if they were removed.
