Wireless network

I'm trying to help my friend setup Kubuntu 7.10 on their laptop, which has seen better days and currently runs Ubuntu 6.06, but we have hit a problem. Their wireless network hardware isn't detected in 7.10 off the bat, whereas it is in 6.06.

I got them to try lspci, which returned:

Is Kubuntu installed or just booted off the live CD?

have you tried?
system settings
click on "advanced tab"
click on "restricted drivers"
make sure your wireless device is enabled
then choose download from the internet

Kubuntu was installed, but they needed to use their internet connection so it was removed. I'll get them to check the Restricted Drivers on the LiveCD.

May take a while though, them living on the other side of the world at present is one hell of an obstacle :P

Okay, it already has recognised the hardware, and it is using the correct driver it appears, just it doesn't connect.

Is there anything in particular that a wireless setup would require settings-wise? I've never set one up before, so even mundane, seemingly obvious things to do would help, if someone would care to point them out.

make sure the wireless network card on the laptop is turned on, because some laptop have switch to turn on or off the wireless NIC.
