Hello,
how did you try muting the volume? With Kmix, Alsamixer or did you just push the mute button on your machine?
Sometimes buttons don't work (e.g. on my laptop I can't change screen brightness with a button, i have to do it manually in the power options.). Post some more information and I'm sure we'll work something out.

It's the volume that's on the panel near the time.
If I go to a website.
Ex. www.mudbubble.com and want to mute the sound, I click on the sound icon and click on the green circle to mute the volume. When I mute the volume it does not mute.
