[Solved]Graphics problem. Can't get the right resolution.

This is my first attempt to install Kubuntu. Sorry to say, i'm about to start to really hate linux...... :-(

I'm having graphics issues. I have a LCD screen, and default settings would be 1280 X 1024,
Initially, after i installed Kubuntu i set resolution, and everything was just fine. Now after i reboot my system, it's all problems.

First when i booted my system, it halted while loading X-server. The monitor was all coloured vertical stripes and my monitor said something about signal error, vertical freq beeing wrong...?
I rebooted and now i can log in, but initally the screensize is about twice the size of my monitor. So i have to scrioll both vertically and horizontally to cover all of my desktop. When i try to adjust resolution, i have the following options:
    320 X 240
    400 X 300
    640 X 480
    800 X 600
    1400 X 1050

None of them fit my monitor....

I have a Nvidia card, XFX 7600 XXX

Attempts to install Nvidia drivers also failed....

Re: Graphics problem. Can't get the right resolution.

You need to reconfigure your xserver. Have a look at http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3085112.0 and http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=690760 . Basically run
    sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
    in Konsole Terminal Program.

You do not say which issue you have. Try Albert Milone's script called "Envy" at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=690760. It works for many people, but not all. Read the FAQ! It tries to check out what video card you have and download and install the correct driver.

So if you go KMenu>System Settings>Monitor and Display - what is the largest size?

How did you install your Nvidia driver?

          Have you try Envy? http://www.albertomilone.com/nvidia_scripts1.html

I found the drivers at Nvidia homepages, and followed the instructions there. It failed.

The good news is that Envy fixed my problem.

Thanks guys, for helping me out here
