How do I get into Recovery mode without rebooting

I need to get into Recovery Mode, but hitting ESC when I see Grub doesn't seem to work. Is there another way to get there? Thanks.

use Super Grub Boot disc. Downloadable zip file burn to cd and it gives you option of which system to boot into.

If your boot menu only presents the "normal" boot line, you can press "e" to edit it, and change the options on the kernel line so the only options are "ro" and "single". Then cursor to the end and hit "Enter" and then highlight the line and press "b" to boot it -- those options take you to recovery console.
