Re: going from winxp to gutsy on a dell 2400
Did you go into the BIOS and configure the CD drive to boot first? Where did you get the Kubuntu disk? One thing I've found out is if you burn a Kubuntu Linux iso on a Windows machine it won't work. You have to burn the iso using a Linux machine. At least that's been my experience.

yes its booting from the cd first and ive gone thru the kubunto loading screen and told it to install kubunto after a while it goes to a loading screen with the word kubunto and a blue bar bouncing back and forth in the middle after about 10-15 minutes of that it goes black and i get nothing no cd spin no fan movement and i have left it like that for about 45 minutes before i finally gave up and turned off the computer

i have "ordered" a 32bit kubuntu cd from the websites shipit offer so should i wait and try that cd and see what happens? might i have to use fawn instead or gutsy?
i suppose it might help to say that i wanted to do a full wipe and start over... ive only had to do it once before and it was from winxp to winxp so it was kinda easy since windows kinda does all the work for you :/

Re: going from winxp to gutsy on a dell 2400
First of all burning on a windows system makes absolutely no difference.
sometimes and depending on the media you should burn at less than 8x speed if at all possible.
I am not sure depending on which version you are booting you may have a video card issue. Hardy is better at detecting certain video cards than gutsy so you might want to try that It is in beta but in my experience very stable and will be released in about a month.
You can also try the alternate cd.
The alternates are better with difficult hardware.
Especially if you are using the whole disk anyway.
I hope this helps, welcome (almost) and enjoyHP Pavilion dv6 core i7 (Main)

ok so i see your suggesting hardy although ive heard that alot of programs arent coded for kde4 and thats what hardy is based on so the main thing i want to run on my system is WoW and some picture editing software are there addons/apps that are coded or compatible with kde4 for that?

OK so I'm sure by now I'm getting a bit annoying but Ive downloaded and burned the hardy 8.04 alpha 6 .ISO and now it seems to stay at the kubuntu load bar where the blue rectangle goes back and forth it was like that for over and hour now and its still going i don't wanna shut it down if its doing its thing but is this normal?

Re: going from winxp to gutsy on a dell 2400
Hardy comes in both flavors. There is plenty on that in this forum. Have a look.
I still think it is a video card issue.
Can you post the stats on your machine? especially the card.
With the live cd you can choose "install" and you will go straight to the nstallation.
Finally and if the above doen't work get the alternate cd of the flavor you want.
If you get the HH beta alternat you will have kde3.5.9 as default and can put kde4 as an alternatedesktop on later.
If you want kde4 only, get the kde4 alpha cd.
Hope that helpHP Pavilion dv6 core i7 (Main)
