I have posted below what happens when I issue the following command, in order to edit any file, or even view it using Kate. This is in Konsole. Alt-F2 won't even open Kate, I assume because of the error messages.
Kate opens, and I can edit the files, but every time I do this I get these error messages.
AMD Athlon 32, 1 G Ram, 80G HDD partitioned as /, home, and 17G backup, Kubuntu Gutsy, installed from Live Disk Generic last week, 2.6.22.14 generic.
*************
tom@tom-desktop:~$ sudo kate /etc/fstab
Error: "/var/tmp/kdecache-tom" is owned by uid 1000 instead of uid 0.
Error: "/tmp/kde-tom" is owned by uid 1000 instead of uid 0.
Error: "/tmp/ksocket-tom" is owned by uid 1000 instead of uid 0.
