Hello,
It's been long time since I wrote to this forum for help.
I'm using ubuntu and kubuntu for almost a year and it's so great that when I have problem on something I have the best technitians to help me over the net.
Well this time, I changed my ADSL ISP to a new one. They gave me a router that must be used as VOIP as well as ADSL. So I had to install it on other room than mine (with computer). So I had to use wireless or have the new router turned off and use my old router (but this way no one can call me). My room is approximately 10m distance from router. I cannot use ethernet because of the hallway to my room.
Well here is the problem with the wireless.
I bought a USB card LEVEL ONE WNC-0305USB. I asked first but they told me that LEVEL ONE uses ATHEROS chipset and it's working fine with ubuntu.
So as I installed it, it asks me for a WEP code (wich I put it) and everytime I turn on the computer it asks me for a code (I gave once) that can login to the router.
It loggs in, I use Internet for some time and then it stops. Sometimes it shows that it's online but it doesn't work firefox or Azureus torrent. Sometimes it shows that it works to log in to the router and asks me to write the WEP address but it doesn't connect.
I tried also with the WPA but still didn't work.
I put the MAC address of the USB to the router (a guy told me that).
The router is a Greek one called NetFasteR IAD (POTS). A post I found had that the VOIP firmware looks like SMC 7908 VoWBRA.
Do you think that the router has an option not to request the WEP every few minutes?
I'm not familiar with the WiFi. A friend of mine using windows told that every 10-15 minutes he has to reconnect the wireless router.
I was searching to use the ADSL over electricity. An electritian told me that it might be the lift that is near the router and has magnetic waves. Another one told me that might be the electric cords cause it.
Anyways, can anyone help me on that?
How can I make the wireless USB card to work fine?
Since I'm still new on Linux, please when you ask me something, let me know the command I have to input.
Thanks in advance.
