New to Linux Trying Gutsy Gibbons

I am trying to connect to the internet using a wireless USB Adapter (Linksys USBWG54),and the system sees it as active but can't connect to the internet. It also is showing my hardwire port as active but I am not using it.
Do I need to disable the hardwire port first or is this a driver issue?

Thanks For Any Help You Can Give,

    Roger

Do you have knetworkmanager running? If so, does your access point show up in the list?

Sorry it took so long to get back to this.
Wireless connection shows up and is enabled but the adapter does not respond.
I have dual boot and it works fine in win xp.
I am thinking it may be a driver problem.
      Thanks for your quick reply.
