    Re: java plugin problem

I recently banged my head against the wall for a few hours over the same issue in Kubuntu 7.10. I would suggest removing the ln file by pathing to the plug-ins folder where you put it and using the rm command on the link file.

What I ended up doing was installing the Java Runtime via Add/Remove as I had a lot of trouble trying to do it from Sun's source. This remedied my situation pretty quickly.

Just be sure to agree to the license agreement or it won't install! Turns out my original attempt at doing it through add/remove didn't work because I didn't realize the checkbox was hidden and you had to scroll to get to it...I thought by clicking next you agreed!

Also, if I recall correctly there's a FireFox plugin in the Add/Remove.

      Re: java plugin problem

Personally I have to use two ln commands to get java going in firefox, you will find them both in an older post of mine at:
      http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...4388#msg104388

(decided not to just reproduce them here as that thread as a whole has some good stuff on java & firefox)

        Re: java plugin problem

I have beat my brains out on this one too. I use Gutsy now, I also use synaptic and jre 6 for other apps. my sugestion would be to use synaptic (dont know adept that well) enable ALL REPOSITORIES. then install:

        sun-java6-bin
        sun-java6-jre
        sun-java6-jdk
        sun-java6-plugin

that should get you full java support.
You can do it with sudo apt-get install sun-java6-bin&&sun-java6-jre&&sun-java6-jdk&&sun-java6-plugin too. I use java for Ibutton apps and the national weather service, to look at radar loops .(why yes, I am a storm spotter and a weather guy)

I had probs with fiesty and java support. maybe it's fixed now.

        Hope this helps

I hope this is not to cryptic for you. kubuntu geeks seem to be stuck on adept. I never have been impressed with it. I am Biased toward synaptic. if you need help just reply and I'll check tommorow.
