    Problem enlarging logical partition

I have a logical partition in an extended partition which has adequate extra space. When I try to use gparted on a live disk to enlarge the logical, it allows only a very slight enlargement, nothing near the extra space in the extended partition. Could anyone offer any help? Thanks.

Is the rest of the space in the extended partition unallocated?

Is the extended partition the fourth primary partition? If not, you're allowed 4 primary partitions, so maybe you could just delete the extended partition and make it a primary.

Just to be sure, I would boot into GParted Live CD, click on the Extended partition, then the Partition tab at top and Resize/Move, and you'll get a dialog box showing the Extended partition and the max you can resize => click or accept that maximum. Then go back and try to work on the Logical partition in question.
