    Re: Running Windows Software

It is a dos based program, but it requires Pervasive SQL 9.1, which is a Windows based program. I don't know much about the nut and bolts of the estimating, but I think it's compiled through pervasive. The estimating program itself is as simple as it gets, but it also needs to see pervasive running.

Still having trouble getting the virtual machines running so I can get windows installed in the background. Anyone have a simple install approach, where I can just click something?

      Okay here are my links:

      http://www.howtoforge.com/vmware_con..._windows_linux

      http://news.softpedia.com/news/Windo...e-59314.shtml]

When you use the converter you can then delete all of your anti-everything software and firewalls, clean up your system (registry, etc) in your virtual machine and you will have a lean and fast xp

If you want to use vmware follow these steps:

The easiest way to get vmware player is not from the repos, because it is probably not the newest version.
      Get it straight from vmware:
      http://www.vmware.com/products/player/

unpack it into a subfolder and open a terminal in that folder and run
      sudo ./vmware-install.pl
if you are in GG (Kubuntu Gutsy 7.10) accept all the defaults

If you are in hardy you will have to get the vmware-any-any-116 patch and follow these instructions:
      http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3090895.0

If you want to use virtual box follow these instructions here:

      Hope this helps

Ah.. so you need a version of windows. Anyway.. virtualbox is on the standard reposi tories so you have jus so do:

        k menu-> "add/remove programs" -> search:virtualbox

        or from command line
"sudo aptitude search virtualbox" ( just ti check if u find it) and
        " sudo aptitude install virtualbox"

once installed u will have the app in your menu: run it, create a new virtual machine ( its quite easy), just remember to setup correctly the cdrom. put a windows installation cdrom in your drive .. start the virtuall machine .. install and now you have a full "windows" inside a "window" ... there u can install and run what u even desire :-) ( the only real limit is that this windows is using a fake graphic card withour 3d acceleration features.. so no 3d games....)

BTW... decided to try virtualbox.... This is awesome!

            I don't need 3D, so it's not an issue...

                  Re: Running Windows Software

dunno if about leopartworks under vbox, but thats an interesting question....

Sticking on vbox install also "guest addictions" ( look at official site) it allow you to move in and out mouse focusins and de-focusing automatically the VM and allow you to resize windows and screen resolution as you wish .... its realy a must.

                    Re: Running Windows Software

I'm going to check it out... was just going to ask about the screen resolution, because it's really bad. Also got a couple of hardware errors, one being the display driver, and the other a system device error.
