    Is this true?

Sorry. I am new in using linux in general. But one of my friends told me that Ubuntu isn't a good choice for laptops. He told that it may shorten my hard drive life time. Is this true?

    Re: Is this true?

Well I have Kubuntu on this laptop going on 3 years. No problems here. No signs of giving out. Really a hard drive is a hard drive and most systems access them basically the same. Actually less with linux because the Swap file isn't used as much as Windows uses it's Page File.

Your friend is referring to this:

which has been rather badly overblown, IMHO. Review the facts carefully, and you will see that it was much ado about not much.

          Re: Is this true?

Another common problem with laptops is hibernating. I fought long and hard trying to get it working and never succeeded. I just console myself that cold booting Kubuntu is faster than resuming Windows when hibernated.

And my problem seems to revolve around my nVidia graphics. Your mileage may vary.
