    Wireless Internet

Having installed Kwifi manager to monitor the wireless signal my network card is working fine however I have discovered that I frequently have to go to the web page of my modem and re click connect. When I was using windows XP if the signal was lost it would automatically reconnect. Does anyone know how I can make this happen with Kubuntu 7.10.

    Thanks

If the router and modem are the same as when using WinXP then the problem is not with kubuntu.

I recommend "rebooting" the modem and router by powering them down for 10 seconds. I have to perform this occasionally with mine.

      Re: Wireless Internet

thanks for that Mike, I have tried rebooting. However I am still having to constantly log into my router in a browser and click connect, this happened automatically when I used XP, so the hardware is the same but the behaviour is different.

The wireless card is finding the router and has a decent signal but I am having to manually get the router to connect to the internet, either this link was not often lost in XP or if it was lost it re-connected itself again. I don't know if Win XP had some sort of inbuilt software that was doing this?

I hope that clarifies the problem,

      thanks

I am only speculating, but maybe WinXP was connecting to the internet more frequently keeping the connection alive. Such as checking for updates or something. Have you checked the router settings for a 'keep alive' setting? I have that set on mine.

You're right, talk about thick! It was set to time out after 10mins of no activity, I've changed it to the maximum 99mins.

I always try to remember Occam's Razor when it comes to troubleshooting. Most times it's just a simple thing causing big errors. I am glad you got it working.
