    Problem w/Adept

Hello all. I have a problem. I'm new this and am not sure if I have looked in the right place for the answer, but I cannot open/run Adept. I was trying to install WINE (which I could not find in Adept, by the way) & I think I messed something up. every time i try to open it I get an error "Could not open cache-Adept deb http://wine.sourceforge.net/apt/ binary/".

have no idea what i did. any suggestions. please note that i am VERY new at this, so please give details w/any explanations.

    thanks,,,

What's in your /etc/apt/sources.list file? Can you copy the contents?

Yeah, I'll have to do it when I get home though. Will be after 5pm.

          Re: Problem w/Adept

          Hi,

first I can see is that cdrom source is not commented, big source of troubles (if you don't always have the cd inserted)
You can comment it by adding a # on the beginning of the second line, like this :
          #deb cdrom:[Kubuntu 5.10 _Breezy Badger_ - Release i386 (20051012)]/ breezy main restricted

          Hope it will help

Oooohhhh, so that's why I kept getting the cdrom error too!

Thanks, sky. I'll try that as soon as I get home (away from this evil Windows machine @ work). I'll let you know.

            Thanks again.

              Re: Problem w/Adept

Ok, tried commenting the second line as you said Sky, but when i try to save it I get an error :

The document could not be saved, as it was not possible to write to file:///etc/apt/sources.list.
Check that you have write access to this file or that enough disk space is available.

Any suggestions for this one I KNOW there ie enough disk space & I also tried running the command as root, but that didn't work either. Should i be logging in as root to make these changes?

Close everything and then press Alt-F2 and type
                Code:
                kdesu konqueror
                then edit your /etc/apt/sources.list

                  Re: Problem w/Adept

or even quicker: sudo kwrite /etc/apt/sources.list

scroll to the bottom & add:

                  Code:
                  deb [url]http://wine.sourceforge.net/apt/[/url] binary/
<br /><br />*temp. hiatus from forums due to comp + net broken* :&#039;(
