    Maxtor Basics External Hard Drive

    Hi,

I've just tried to plug my 160GB Maxtor Basics external hard drive into my laptop (Fujitsu/Siemens Amilo running Kubuntu Gutsy Gibbon). Kubuntu recognises drive and displays a usb-key type icon, but it wont open the drive. When I try I get the error hal-storage-removable-mount-all-options refused uid 1001. I have successfully used Kubuntu with other storage devices (160GB Freecom). I have successfully used the Maxtor drive with Windows XP, so I am pretty sure the drive works ... just not with my Kubuntu.

    Any help much appreciated.

    Did you try the usual

K > System Settings > Advanced > Disk & Filesystems, Administrator Mode, right-click on the drive, Modify, set a mount point (eg, /media/usbxyz), change permission to "every one can do anything," click Writeable, OK, back out, Enable, Exit out, and try it?
