kdar will not load

I downloaded kdar rpm, processed with alien, and installed with dpkg -i. When I click on kdar which appeared in Kmenu Utilities, the tumbling hour glass appears for about 30 sec. but kdar never pops up. Could someone tell me what is happening? Thanks.

Tried kdar in terminal. Complained about needimg lib.so.3. Found an rpm package for lib.so.3. Would it be dangerous to install this via alien?

I am not sure. I have not used alien. If you feel froggy you can try it and let us know.

Seeing how you already installed the main package with alien and (according to a search at packages.ubuntu.com) no Ubuntu package seems to contain libdar.so.3 I don't see how it can hurt to try it.
