I will be putting new parts together and reinstalling kubuntu. I have a 750gb that is way faster than the 80gb. I want to create boot/grub/home on the first 76gb or so of the 750 and create a clone that would back up on a schedule on the 80gb, and be able to run a .sh or something to back up before installs, upgrades, etc.

Re: can I do this? partition help
Hi,
If you want I can try to help you, can you give the information about these disks and partitions :
sudo fdisk -l /dev/<disk1>
sudo fdisk -l /dev/<disk2>
Tell me which disk is the 750 Gig and which one is the 80.
Cheers

Re: can I do this? partition help
Well I used gparted (by your rec) to inspect and redo the 20gb on this pc and notice swap is at the end,
It's just the spinpoint is the fastest hdd I own so it seems to make sense to use it.
I just wonder about the sensibility of using a 750gb for os, and I also would like to make use of the 80gb for backup if it would be feasible.
Any thoughts?

That is not a normal Linux filesystem location -- are you sure that's what you want to do? :P
