Sorry if I make this question more complicated than it needs to be. I'm not really sure what facts you'll need to diagnose, so I'll start from the beginning.
I had been using kubuntu Gusty 7.10 with a wired connection for a couple months when I decided I'd install ubuntu as well. At about the same time, I started using my D-Link DWL-G650M wireless adapter with the aid of ndiswrapper.
I was able to get onto wireless networks in both ubuntu and kubuntu for a week or so, but then (and I have no idea why) wireless stopped working in kubuntu while it continued to work in Ubuntu. When I try to launch Knetworkmanager nothing happens, whether I launch from the command line or KMenu. The diodes on my wireless adapter don't light up when I launch in kubuntu. When I open Kwifimanager it scans and lists available networks, but says signal strength is zero for all of them.
In case it helps, I ran iwconfig and this is what came up:
