    GRUB help!

    Hi!

I'm new to linux so I guess I have a "dumb" question.

Anyway, I've installed a kubuntu version of linux among Windows XP, somehow i messed up somethin' when installing .... in GRUB! So here I am asking for your help.

Where can I edit GRUB so I will be able to run Windows and Linux, I really need Windows for programs that don't run on Linux (like Photoshop... and other).

    Thank you for ur help!

        Re: GRUB help!

        Try this:

        Restore Grub
        From Ubuntu Document Storage Facility

HOWTO: Restore GRUB (if your MBR is messed up)

        Before you edit, BACKUP !

Why there are dead links ?

OK I'll give it a try... THANKS!

EDIT: I don't know how to change, I've tried but everytime I start the computer i get directly to Kubuntu without seeing GRUB loader... I have to press ESC button so I can choose what will I load... and stil there isn't that Windows option that I am looking for.

            Re: GRUB help!

It could be that we are missing a bit of detail here. What is on your hard drive? Is it just XP with Kubuntu loaded after? If so, go back and edit Grub so that you have somethig like this in the file

            title Windows XP
            [TAB]root (hd0,0)
            [TAB]makeactive
            [TAB]chainloader +1

You should see something similar to this which is to boot your Kubuntu. Put the XP on top if you want windows to be the default, or underneath if you want Kubuntu to be on the top.

If your hard disk is differently arranged then the command detail will be different but the basic structure is as above

Fixing MBR with Windows (9X to XP): http://www.ntfs.com/mbr-damaged.htm

After that you only see Windows -> Restore Grub -> Now you should see both Windows and Kubuntu (hopefully).
