BTW, when I wrote noacpi I really meant acpi=off

As for nothing being plugged in, that's good.

When I add nofirewire and acip=off, it returns more than a page full of new lines at the bottom, followed by the familiar "BusyBox" message you can see above.

But not the same ones as before?

Could you post last 2 or 3 of those? (i know, retyping them manually is a pain... Sorry. )

RE "But not the same ones as before?"

I'm not sure. It all zooms by before I can focus on a line. Is there a way of slowing it down or reading it page by page?

I will post the last 3 in a minute...

            Hi Trident,

Thanks for asking: When I add “nofirewire” and “acpi=off” data pages by too fast to read. The final page has 13 lines.

            Line 1 reads: [ 6.288000] ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:09:00.0[A] → GSI 17 (level, low) → IRQ 17

            Lines 2, 4, 5 & 7 are about SCSI.
            Line 3, 6 & 8 are about sda.
Lines 9-10 are about sd attached SCSI

            Line 11: [ 6.576000] eth0: Tigon3 [partno(BCM95906) rev c0002 PHY(5906)] (PCI Express) 10/100Base-TX Ethernet 00:19:8b:fc:80:2a
            Line 12: [ 6.576000] eth0: RXcsums[1] LinkChgREG[1] MIirq[1] ASF[0] Split [0] WireSpeed [0] TSOcap[0]
            Line 13: [ 6.576000] eth0: dma_rwctr1[76180000] dma_mask[64-bit]
            BusyBox v1.1.3 (Debian 1:1.1.3-3ubuntu3) Built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.

/bin/sh: can't access tty: job control turned off
            (initramfs)
I'll be happy to type any of the SCSI or sda lines for you.

Re: How to put Kubuntu on a Dead Dell w/ Vista?

PnP BIOS caused a fatal error. Please advise.

Trying to boot from the CD, I got this:
              - - - - - -
              PNPBIOS fault.. attempting recovery.
PnPBIOS: Warning! Your PnP BIOS caused a fatal error. Attempting to continue
PnPBIOS: You may need to reboot with the “pnpbios=off” option to operate stably
PnPBIOS: Check with your vendor for an updated BIOS
PnPBIOS: get_dev_node: unexpected status 0x37 Loading, please wait.

              (initramfs)
              - - - - - -
To get this response, at the CD boot, I hit F6. Then I think I adjusted the code to read, “nosplash acpi=off.” But I'm not certain of the code and can't reproduce the message.

When I boot the CD with “pnpbios=off” in the code line, however, I still get this response:
              - - - - - -
              BusyBox v1.1.3 (Debian 1:1.1.3-3ubuntu3) Built-in shell (ash)

/bin/sh: can't access tty: job control turned off
              (initramfs)
              - - - - - -
              Please help me.

PS - I'm starting a new thread to call attention to the BIOS thing: PnP BIOS Fatal Error.
