Possible to set short date format to: DD-mmm-YYYY?

Hi,

In my other OS, it's very simple to set the date/time formats to pretty much anything, however in Kubuntu, under the "Regional & Language" option, under system setting, the shorts date formats appear to be limited to a couple of options...

Surely there must be some way of changing to to DD-mmm-YYYY, ie: 16-Feb-2008?

Hi Mike,

I got mine to read like this. 15.2.2008, haven't found a way to make it tell me the name of the month. But what I did was right click over the time & date in the task bar. Then "Date & Time Format" then the tab "Time & Date" on the line "Short Date Format" I picked dD.mM.YYYY

Try:
DD-SHORTMONTH-YYYY

You can see the list of available choices by clicking on the help button in window titlebar, and then the edit-box of the format you want to change...or you can press the help button that is on the top right corner of the window this is in kcontrol.


EDIT: Hmm, the Help button is bottom-left in System Settings, and no window help...go figure

EDIT2: Can't seem to get it right, there is a bottom left help button in kcontrol as well...anyway, click one of the helps to see the available options.

Works great! You have to 'restart' [ctrl-alt-bksp] for it to take effect. It isn't intuitive, that you can 'type' the format you want, when you have a drop-down selection list. Thanks for the tip kubicle. Clicking on Help clearly illustrates that you can select the way you want the date displayed.

Added:

Right-click on the clock and select Date & Time Format and click on the Help button. Here are the format codes:

Date format codes:
YYYY - The year, using 4 digits.
YY - The year, using 2 digits.
MM - The month, using 2 digits (01 to 12).
mM - The month, using 1 or 2 digits (1 to 12).
MONTH - The name of the month.
SHORTMONTH - The abbreviated name of the month.
DD - The day, using 2 digits (01 to 31).
dD - The day, using 1 or 2 digits (1 to 31).
WEEKDAY - The name of the weekday.
SHORTWEEKDAY - The abbreviated name of the weekday.
