    Making xine default (or something).

    Hello.

I was here before because I had Kubuntu 5.10 working, but with no sound. I changed the soundcard (from Emu 0404 to M-Audio 2496), now I have sound but its not working properly. I initially had amaroK with gstreamer, but mp3 playback was choppy and garbled, so I changed it to xine, which seems much better, except some slight skipping at the beginning of each track. But I can't get either Kaffeine or vlc to work, they both have garbled sound, then crash. xine doesn't appear as an option in Kaffeine, and I can't find any dialogue in vlc to set the engine. Video playback seems to be OK.

    I'm not completely stupid.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

By default Kaffeine uses xine as backend. Look: http://kaffeine.sourceforge.net/inde...features&id=13
    (Kaffeine = Xine)

VLC is the engine itself (as xine). So you can't change it. (+ VLC don't need external codecs. Look: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/features.html)

Start program (Kaffeine/VLC) in konsole -> you get error messages (or not )
    Before you edit, BACKUP !

Thats rather odd, because I'm sure the first time I tried to use it it gave me a gstreamer error and said the soundcard (or something) was already in use. Anyway, I seem to have broken it completely now, and it generally seems like Kubuntu just doesn't like me. I might wait till 6.04. Thanks for your help.
