    Re: Widescreen support?

No, it seems that i810 does not do it either... Tried it alone and with 815resolution...

ADD: somehow all this rigmarole fixed 1280x768 completely. So, although I'd really like to get higher resolutions, I probably would just stick to it for a while.

      Re: Widescreen support?

I only I had their working xorg.conf file.

you mention 815 when they mention 810i they mention also to select this option for your monitor

Well, it was about 2 AM here when I did all that... Maybe I did mixed it up.

        By the way, thanks!
Having even one working resolution is a big help!

          Re: Widescreen support?

I've just run kubuntu on a Dell Latitude D630, its seems to pick up the graphics chipset well enough at a resolution of 1280x800 and not at all strecthed, I cannot select a higher option though. The only issue seems to be sound support.

I can't fully install kubuntu on this laptop because it belongs to the people I work for and their customers, lol. I build the laptops to Windows 2000 and XP at the moment. I'd just thought I'd test it out.

I'd absolutely love it if we could roll this out instead of windows, If only I could get it all working.

Anyway, this doesn't solve your problem although this has an intel chipset

That's 965 chipset, mine is 945... But it is good to know, both from this test and Hardy CD working properly, that it _could_ be done. Sooner or later...
            Thanks again

Open Adept Manager and search for xserver-xorg-video-intel to see if it is installed.
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

It is. Version 2:2.1.1-0ubuntu9.1, amd64. (I was a bit confused at first b/c it wasn't tagged as driver, but it certainly is )

                  Re: Widescreen support?

If you haven't already done so, you can simply reconfigure the xserver:
                  Code:
                  dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
If you are in doubt, make a backup copy of your current /etc/X11/xorg.conf file first.
Windows no longer obstructs my view.

Well, maybe it's just me incorrectly entering something, but resulting xorg.conf wasabout the same as if autogenerated. Thanks, didn't know about this way of configuring it.

Well. Okay, we know you have an Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller. When you were at the point in the reconfiguration where it asks about your video, what options were presented, and which one did you select?

No, lspci output on this page is not my one (see its author), it's from another computer entirely. my lspci output is below.

Anyway, what I have is identified as "Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller".
                            What I selected:
Autodetect:yes, then intel, then PCI 0:2:0, left blank additional memory,Yes to kernel framebuffer. <skips keyboard and mouse questions>, Files section: yes, monitor autodetect:yes, name: SyncMaster , resolutions, - as default + 1280 x 758 (by default 1680x1050, 1280x1024,1280x960, (+all std. SVGA) were selected), Medium conf mode, 1680x1050@75 (no@60 mode was present), no sync ranges, 24 bit (of 8-24).

Are you running a laptop and trying to configure an external monitor??
Windows no longer obstructs my view.

No, it's not a laptop, yes, monitor is external. (That Spiko's post, was not mine and not about my system.)

Also, resolutions I selected in reconfigure are different from ones I see on System Settings screen: there are just 1680x1050, 1280x1024, 1280x960, std. SVGA)
