Hi,
I've had problems with Kopete crashing when connecting to my MSN account (a known bug) and I downloaded an updated KDE library package (kdelibs4c2a_3.5.8-0ubuntu3_i386.deb) to fix it.
However when I double click on the .deb file and the GDebi package installer runs, it never seems to complete the update. At first it does a bit of disk access, then reports that 'all dependencies satisfied', then prompts for the root password (which I use my own user password - supposedly that is the one to use, since kubuntu has no root account password set up?).
It then continues disk access for a minute or so, with all options in the GDebi window greyed-out. Then the window just disappears and all disk activity ceases. No report of completion - nothing.
The Kopete bug is still there, so I'm assuming that the fix wasn't applied.
How do I check?
Is there something I'm doing wrong with these .deb files? I've tried installing others with the same result...
I'm about to chuck in the towel, since installing new packages and patches is a real stumbling block and it's really making it difficult to use Kubuntu.
As always, any suggestion would be great!
I'm still on a pretty clean install of Kubuntu 7.10, with only Firefox 2.0.0.12 installed in addition to the 'pre-installed' apps...
Thanks,
Mike.
